HC Deb 20 December 1954 vol 535 c216W
Mr. Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs why the British Occupation Forces in Germany interned from 1945–47 Herr Waldemar Kraft: and what were the charges levelled against this individual.

Mr. Turton

Herr Kraft was arrested on 16th July, 1945, by virtue of his honorary rank of Hauptsturmfuhrer (equivalent to a captain) in the Allgemeine S.S., a body which was about to be prosecuted before the international military tribunal at Nuremberg as a criminal organisation. He was held in internment pending the outcome of the Nuremberg proceedings and was then tried by a German court, which discontinued the proceedings against him on 28th October, 1947.
