§ Sir F. Markhamasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer to what organisations the Government makes grants for charitable or cultural purposes over which Parliament has no direct control; and what is the total annual amount of such grants.
§ Mr. H. BrookeI would refer my hon. Friend to the list of the grants-in-aid provided in the 1954–55 Estimates which was submitted by the Treasury to Sub-Committee C of the Select Committee on Estimates during the Parliamentary Session 1953–54. It is printed as an Appendix to that Committee's Second Report (House of Commons paper 143, pages xxii to xxxiv). Some only of they recipients of these grants are charitable or cultural organisations; it is not possible to make any precise classification.
