HC Deb 20 December 1954 vol 535 cc218-9W
80. Mr. Collins

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that leaflet, CDP/L2, issued by his Department, states that farmers using wheat of their own growing only qualify for deficiency payment if a seed permit has been issued, and that they must sell the grain to an authorised merchant and buy the grain back from him; and if he will amend the terms of his leaflet, so as to conform with the statement of Government policy made on this subject on 15th November, 1954.

Dr. Hill

No. A clear distinction is drawn in the leaflet between grain redelivered to a grower for grinding or similar purposes and seed grain redelivered for sowing.

88 and 90. Mr. Willey

asked the Minister of Food (1) what amount has been paid this financial year by way of Home-Grown Cereals Deficiency Payments; and how much it is now estimated will be paid this financial year; and

(2) what amount has been paid this financial year by way of deficiency payments for fatstock; and how much it is now estimated will be paid this financial year.

Dr. Hill

Wheat deficiency payments and advances on account of barley acreage payments amount to £1.6 million up to 17th December. Payments on fatstock to 10th December amount to £28.1 million. As regards the second part of these Questions, I cannot add to the reply given to the hon. Member on 17th November.
