asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will now exercise his powers under the Capital Punishment (Amendment) Act, 1868, to provide that sentence of death shall be carried out before 6 a.m. on the day fixed.

I know of no grounds for recommending to sheriffs that there should be a change in the existing practice in this matter.
