HC Deb 15 December 1954 vol 535 c145W
70. Mr. Edelman

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the extent of tuberculosis in the Navy for the years 1939, 1952 and 1953, respectively.

Mr. J. P. L. Thomas

The number of cases diagnosed per thousand officers and men in the years 1939, 1952 and 1953 were 1.94, 2.71 and 2.38 respectively. The post-war figures are not directly comparable with those of 1939. Modern techniques bring to light many early and arrested cases which might have escaped notice before the war.
