HC Deb 15 December 1954 vol 535 c150W
90. Mr. Spearman

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General when a telephone service can be supplied to Mr. Vitty, Dale View, Sawdon, near Scarborough, who has been told that he cannot have one next year and Whose business is suffering in consequence.

Mr. Gammans

I am sorry Mr. Vitty is having to wait for a telephone, but we cannot put any more wires on the telegraph poles serving his neighbourhood. No one in his neighbourhood is under an obligation to share his line, and we have not succeeded in persuading anyone to share with him voluntarily. We have plans for a new line scheme to serve this area, but because of other more urgent work I am afraid it will be some time before it is completed.
