§ 70. Mr. Hamiltonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is yet in a position to make any reduction in the prices of school meals.
§ Mr. J. StuartNo. I do not think that any reduction in the standard charge could be justified. The arrangements for free meals and meals at reduced prices ensure that no children are deprived of meals because of financial hardship; and since the fall in demand after the increase in price in 1953 there has been a steady recovery in the numbers taking meals.
