HC Deb 14 December 1954 vol 535 c124W
114. Mr. Murray

asked the President of the Board of Trade what steps are being taken in regard to North-West Durham to create new employment, bearing in mind the fact that emigration is now causing a slow, but steady fall in the population.

Mr. H. Strauss

I am aware of a small decline in the population in North-West Durham which has been more than offset by increases in other parts of the county. Some new industries have already been introduced to North-West Durham, and one of them is already planning a substantial expansion.
