HC Deb 14 December 1954 vol 535 cc119-20W
Mr. Braine

asked the Minister of Works what arrangements he is making for car parking in the Central Royal Parks.

Mr. Birch

I propose to introduce the following arrangements for car parking by the public in the Central Royal Parks.

1. The following areas will be appointed for parking cars in St. James's and The Green Parks:

  1. (a) Birdcage Walk, South side, from near Storey's Gate to the East gate of Wellington Barracks;
  2. (b) The Horse Guards Approach Road, both sides, from near Storey's 120 Gate to the South end of Foreign Office Green.

2. In Hyde Park, cars will be allowed to park along the whole of the Ring Road (except where it would be dangerous or cause congestion, e.g. at entrances) and at the place already appointed, near the Magazine.

3. Parking places will be marked by notices and by lines on the roads.

4. Parking by the public will not be permitted on other roads in the Parks.

I shall keep the position under review in consultation with my right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport and the police.
