HC Deb 13 December 1954 vol 535 c100W
114. Mr. McKay

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that a butcher in the Newcastle district was recently fined £50 for selling meat that was consigned for a glue factory as being unfit for human consumption; and if he will circularise local authorities recommending them to pay special attention to their systems of inspection and control.

Dr. Hill

Yes. Local authorities are being advised to arrange where practicable that meat which has been inspected and is agreed to be unfit for human consumption shall be stained before it leaves the slaughterhouse. It is proposed to deal with this subject by regulation under the Food and Drugs Amendment Act when the Act is brought into force.
