asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he will make a statement regarding a commencing date for the Barton Bridge, Lancashire, scheme, in view of the increased allocation of moneys for road works.

Mr. Bence

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what grants were made for road construction in Scotland between 1st April, 1953, and 1st April, 1954.

In the year beginning 1st April, 1953, grants from the Road Fund totalling £759,532 were made for 75 schemes of major improvement and new construction in Scotland, including £150,020 for the following 11 schemes of road construction. This does not of course include grants in respect of road maintenance.
