HC Deb 13 December 1954 vol 535 cc92-3W
84. Mr. F. Anderson

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how many parents' pensions are in payment; and the increase to be granted, arising from his statement made on 16th November, on the general uplift of pensions and allowances.

Brigadier Smyth

Parents' pensions under the Royal Warrant are granted on the basis of need, the governing factor being what the deceased might have been expected to contribute to his parents' support had he survived. I think the present arrangements enable justice to be done in individual cases. There are about 52,000 such pensions.
