§ 60. Mr. Swinglerasked the President of the Board of Trade if he has now considered the evidence submitted to him that the embargo on certain standard types of scientific instruments, by encouraging Eastern European countries to manufacture for themselves, causes damage to British export trade; and what action he will take.
§ Mr. P. ThorneycroftYes. There is evidence that in the field of scientific instruments, as in other sectors, some items on the embargo list are manufactured in East Germany or elsewhere in the Soviet bloc. This is not, however, a conclusive argument for removing them from the embargo list.
