HC Deb 09 December 1954 vol 535 cc76-7W
Mr. Wigg

asked the Secretary of State for War how many of the 422 men who entered into three-year Regular Army engagements with the Colours and four years with the Reserve in November, 1951, were transferred to the Army Reserve during November, 1954; and how many prolonged their service and consequently remain with the Colours.

Mr. Head

The normal statistics of prolongations are not related to the precise month of enlistment and, even if a Special and lengthy examination were made, it could not provide a full answer to this Question. In any case, the prolongation rate can only be reasonably assessed over a period of months and it is still too early to get any worth while indication of the numbers likely to extend their three-year engagements.
