HC Deb 09 December 1954 vol 535 cc75-6W
Brigadier Clarke

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he can yet make an announcement about holidays in Admiralty industrial establishments in 1955.

Mr. J. P. L. Thomas

Yes. The reports by establishments on the closed period in 1954 showed that it had considerable advantages as a means of promoting efficiency and economy. On the other hand, the representatives of the employees stressed the unpopularity of the closed period and the inconvenience caused by it to many individuals. After weighing all these considerations, the Admiralty have decided that the establishments should revert to "staggered" leave arrangements in 1955.
