§ 83. Mr. Gibsonasked the Undersecretary of State for Air if he will make a statement concerning the loss of a Lincoln bomber while on an operational flight in Kenya on Monday, 22nd March; what loss of life occurred; and if he will order an inquiry into the accident and the condition of this aircraft prior to its being sent to Kenya.
Mr. WardI regret that during the course of operations against terrorists in Kenya a Lincoln aircraft from Bomber Command crashed into a hillside on 22nd March. None of the five aircrew survived. A court of inquiry has been convened in Kenya. I can assure the hon. Member that all evidence material to the accident will be carefully examined.
I should like to take the opportunity of expressing the Air Council's sympathy with the relatives of the crew in their bereavement.
