HC Deb 29 October 1953 vol 518 c409W
Mr. Perkins

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how soon he anticipates it will be possible to publish the Report of the Committee on the Industrial Modernisation of Western South Wales; and how far this will deal with the question of inadequate road communications between South Wales and the Midlands.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

This Committee was appointed to advise the Government on specific measures which are necessary for the modernisation of the communications of the area and on the attraction of new industry. It will submit recommendations to the Government on the various matters with which it is concerned as it reaches conclusions on them, and has already dealt with the question of road communications. It is not proposed to publish the advice given by the Committee, particularly since the Chairman is a member of the Government and many of the matters with which the Committee are concerned, such as the possibilities of attracting particular new industries to west South Wales, will be confidential. The House will be informed of the Government's conclusions on the matters considered by the Committee.
