asked the Minister of Education the number of classes in primary schools in Wales with over 40 and 50, respectively, on the register for each of the years 1951 and 1952, and at the most recent convenient date in October this year.

In January, 1951, there were 589 classes with over 40 pupils, including 22 classes with over 50 pupils in maintained primary schools in Wales. The comparable figures for January, 1952, and January, 1953, were 715 and 26, and 816 and 21, respectively. No more recent figures are available.
