HC Deb 26 October 1953 vol 518 cc316-7W
64. Mr. Ness Edwards

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance if he requested the National Insurance Advisory Committee for their observations on the situation arising from the lapsing of Section 62 of the National Insurance Act, 1946.

Mr. Peake

No.

65. Mr. T. Brown

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance if he will, in view of the growing disquiet now showing itself in the industrial areas of the country, which is arising from the lapsing of Section 62 of the National Insurance Act, 1946, give further consideration to the matter.

Mr. Peake

No. The information I have received about the effects of the lapsing of the provision for extended benefit does not lead me to question the correctness of the decision taken in 1946 to limit its operation to a period of five years.
