§ 8 and 11. Mr. Wyattasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies (1) whether he will make a statement on the arrangements for the holding of elections for the Federal Legislative Council in Malaya;
(2) if he will now make a statement on the progress of the committee appointed to consider how the first elections to the Federal Legislative Council of Malaya should be held.
§ Mr. LytteltonThe Committee was appointed in July to consider elections to the Federal Legislative Council and the constitutional changes involved. It includes representatives of most substantial interests in the Federation of Malaya.
The Committee met on 17th August and appointed a Working Party, under the chairmanship of the Attorney-General, to study the problem in detail. Members of the public and representative bodies were invited to submit their views by 15th October. The Working Party is now considering these and preparing recommendations.
