HC Deb 26 November 1953 vol 521 c96W
Mr. Patrick Maitland

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General how many applications for new telephones are now outstanding in the Lanark County Council area; and what the corresponding figure was last year.

Mr. Gammans

1,707 applications were outstanding a year ago and the number now is 1,686. Progress was retarded at the beginning of this year because labour had to be diverted to other parts of Scotland to deal with the widespread storm damage to telephone lines; but in the last six months 900 applications, including new and outstanding demands, have been met.
