asked the Assistant Postmaster-General how many applications for telephones are now outstanding in Wales; how many were outstanding a year ago; and if he will make a statement.

Figures for Wales itself are not readily available, but in Wales and the Border counties 23,717 applications for telephones were outstanding at the 30th September, 1953, as compared with 25,174 a year ago. There were 15,248 new applications during the 12 months.
