HC Deb 25 November 1953 vol 521 c42W
74. Mrs. White

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will ensure that in future tear gas bombs will not be used with an outer casing of the type which caused serious shrapnel wounds and one death in the recent disturbances in Nyasaland.

Mr. Lyttelton

I hope that a less dangerous type of tear smoke grenade will shortly be available in quantity from this country. Colonial Governments have been warned of the risk of using the type of grenade which caused these regrettable casualties.
