HC Deb 25 November 1953 vol 521 c59W
118. Mr. Aitken

asked the Under-secretary of State for Air if he is aware that a number of practice bombs dropped wide of the target at Berners Heath. Suffolk, causing concern to householders in the neighbouring village of North Stow; and what steps he is taking to ensure that there will be no further repetition of these incidents.

Mr. Ward

I regret that on two occasions in the last three months practice bombs dropped on the range at Berners Heath have fallen some distance outside the range area. Instructions have been given for more stringent checks of technical equipment to be made before bombing practice begins. Restrictions have been placed on the height from which bombs may be dropped to lessen the risk of inaccuracy. I hope that these precautions will prevent a repetition of the recent incidents.
