HC Deb 25 November 1953 vol 521 c60W
122 Mr. Hastings

asked the Minister of Agriculture how many live horses were imported from Ireland to be killed for food during the last year for which information is available and also during each of the two previous years; and how many of these were so much injured that they had to be slaughtered on arrival during each of the three periods.

Mr. Nugent

The figures asked for in the first part of the Question are not available. The numbers of horses that had to be slaughtered on arrival from Ireland because of injury or exhaustion were 11 in 1951, four in 1952, and one up to 30th September, this year.
