Colonel Clarkeasked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that the success of the forest policy of Her Majesty's Government depends on confidence in the market for home-grown timber; and what assurance he can give that he will support the market without delay should the price fall below the cost of production.
§ Sir T. DugdaleAs I said in answer to a Motion by my hon. Friend the Member for Weston-super-Mare (Sir I. Orr-Ewing) on 5th December last, the Government fully recognise the need for a healthy and stable forest industry, and I shall always be willing to take up with my colleagues any question which appears to endanger the health of the industry by depriving producers of a reasonable market and a reasonable return.
