HC Deb 25 November 1953 vol 521 c61W
Colonel Clarke

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that the success of the forest policy of Her Majesty's Government depends on confidence in the market for home-grown timber; and what assurance he can give that he will support the market without delay should the price fall below the cost of production.

Sir T. Dugdale

As I said in answer to a Motion by my hon. Friend the Member for Weston-super-Mare (Sir I. Orr-Ewing) on 5th December last, the Government fully recognise the need for a healthy and stable forest industry, and I shall always be willing to take up with my colleagues any question which appears to endanger the health of the industry by depriving producers of a reasonable market and a reasonable return.
