Mr. Lewis

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance (1) the number of persons in receipt of National Assistance benefit in the county borough of West Ham, on a given date in October, for each of the years from 1945 to 1953;

(2) the number of old age pensioners in the county borough of West Ham in receipt of pensions, on a given date in October, for each of the years from 1945 to 1953; and how many of these were receiving National Assistance benefit on these dates.

Information about the number of persons receiving pensions in particular localities is not available. The number of persons receiving regular weekly grants of National Assistance in the county borough of West Ham at the end of September in each year since the start of National Assistance was:
