HC Deb 19 November 1953 vol 520 c191W
114. Mr. John Hall

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why the pension paid to a widow of a policeman is at least £20 less if her husband died before 5th July, 1948, than if he died after that date.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

These differences are the result of the adoption of the Oaksey Committee's recommendations that there should be increases in flat-rate police widows' pensions granted after the date of their Report in April, 1949, and in supplementary police widows' pensions granted on or after the introduction of the National Insurance Scheme on 5th July, 1948.
