HC Deb 19 November 1953 vol 520 c194W
127. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Health to what extent the water supply of the county of Essex is subjected, or it is intended shall be subjected, to fluoridation; and what are the effects of this process.

Mr. Iain Macleod

I understand from my right hon. Friend the Minister of Housing and Local Government that no water undertaking in Essex or elsewhere in this country adds fluorides to its supplies so far as he is aware. In some areas of Essex fluorides occur naturally in the waters used for supply to the public. A Government Mission which studied fluoridation in the United States of America has recommended that fluoridation in selected areas in the United Kingdom should be studied before fluoridation is adopted generally. The Government has not quite completed consideration of the Mission's report which was published in July.
