HC Deb 19 November 1953 vol 520 cc188-9W
109. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will invite the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police to reconsider his decision of 1945 to refuse to allow the League Against Cruel Sports to participate in the annual street collection for animal welfare societies, in view of the fact that most of the other societies participating also deal with controversial matters and that the committee dealing with flag days stated that they saw no grounds for refusing this application.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

No. This matter has been considered by the Commissioner on three occasions since 1945, the latest being in June, 1953, and his decisions have been in accordance with the advice given him by the Advisory Committee on Street Collections.
