asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government the respective extra amounts for the year 1953–54 credited to the Essex County Council by way of weighting the Exchequer Equalisation Grant in respect of the increasing child populations of the new towns of Harlow and Basildon; and what is the total amount of the said grant for the county of Essex.

The first estimate of the total Exchequer equalisation grant payable to Essex for 1953–54 is £1,055,626; the other information asked for is not available, but the extra amounts will be small.
