§ 75. Mr. C. S. Taylorasked the Minister of Agriculture the reason for the increase in personnel in his Department's accounts division from 213 in 1952–53 to 245 in 1953–54.
§ Sir T. DugdaleThis increase has resulted from a transfer of audit work from county committees to the central accounts division. The change was recommended in the interests of audit efficiency by the committee under the chairmanship of Mr. John Ryan which reported on the organisation of my Department in 1951, and has resulted in a net reduction of staff.
§ 76. Sir J. Crowderasked the Minister of Agriculture what the reason is for the estimated increase by £11,492 in the amounts required for salaries and travelling, etc., expenses for members of the fisheries department in 1953–54 as compared with 1952–53.
§ Sir T. DugdaleThe increased cost of salaries is due principally to normal salary increments and to the introduction of improved salary scales. Other expenses are higher because of increases in the rates of travelling and subsistence allowances.
