HC Deb 19 November 1953 vol 520 cc182-3W
81. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Agriculture when he proposes to abolish the county agricultural committees.

Sir T. Dogdale

County agricultural executive committees have many important functions to perform and I have no intention of submitting to Parliament proposals for their abolition.

Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Agriculture how many acres, at the latest available date, were under the control of the county agricultural executive committees; and if he will state for the last completed year the profit or loss on these operations.

Sir T. Dugdale

Forty-three thousand five hundred and nineteen acres were under committee control on 1st October, 1953, which is the latest date for which information is available. For figures on profit and loss, I would refer my hon. Friend to the Trading Accounts and Balance Sheets, 1951–52, Volume II, which contain the latest available information. The accounts for 1952–53 are not yet published.
