HC Deb 19 November 1953 vol 520 c187W
99. Mr. R. Harris

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will, in due course, issue to the public advice on Civil Defence against attack by atomic or hydrogen bombs in the light of recent tests at Woomera.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

The question of the nature and timing of advice to be given to the public on civil defence is one which falls within the terms of reference of the Advisory Committee on Publicity and Recruitment for the Civil Defence and Allied Services, and I propose to wait until they report on the subject before reaching any decision on it. Whenever advice is given, it will take into account experience gained from the recent tests along with all other relevant sources of information.
