HC Deb 19 November 1953 vol 520 c192W
118. Mr. G. Roberts

asked the Minister of Labour the percentage of insured persons now registered as unemployed in the county of Caernarvon, giving specific figures for the employment exchanges at Caernarvon, Penygroes, Portmadoc and Pwllheli; and how these figures compare with the average for Wales and the United Kingdom, respectively.

Sir W. Monckton

At 12th October the figures were 5.7 per cent. for Caernarvonshire, 2.7 per cent. for Wales and 1.6 per cent. for the United Kingdom. It is not possible to compute reliable percentage rates of unemployment for the separate employment exchange areas in Caernarvonshire, but for the Portmadoc and Pwllheli areas combined the figure for 12th October was 7.2 per cent. and for the Bangor, Caernarvon, Bethesda and Penygroes area it was 6.2 per cent. The actual numbers registered as unemployed at the individual employment exchanges were as follows:

Portmadoc 181
Pwllheli 411
Bangor 169
Caernarvon 476
Bethesda 138
Penygroes 195
Conway 119
Llandudno 349
Penmaenmawr 101
