HC Deb 17 November 1953 vol 520 cc150-1W
107. Mr. A. Henderson

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation to what use he puts the weather information received from the Meteorological Office, based on reports from weather ships now stationed by the United States Government in the Western Atlantic.

Mr. Profumo

By arrangement with the Meteorological Office the United States weather ship information is used to assist operation in planning the routes to be flown across the North Atlantic, in preparing the flight forecasts for these routes and in maintaining watch on weather conditions whilst aircraft are in flight. In certain circumstances it is also used in the compilation of forecasts for shipping in the western approaches to the British Isles.
