HC Deb 17 November 1953 vol 520 cc148-9W
102. Mr. Erroll

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works, as representing the Lord President of the Council, whether he will instruct the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research to withhold any further grant from its funds for the construction of the radio telescope which is being built south of Manchester until he is satisfied that the public money so expended will not be wasted by satellite town development reducing the value of the telescope.

Mr. Bevins

No. I have consulted my right hon. Friend the Minister of Housing and Local Government, who sees no reason to believe that any town development which may be proposed in the Congleton area could not be so sited as to avoid electrical interference with the radio telescope at Jodrell Bank.
