HC Deb 17 November 1953 vol 520 cc140-1W
Mr. C. S. Taylor

77, 78 and 79. asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) why the grant to the Royal Academy of Music has been increased to £21,500 for 1953–54 from £17,000 for 1952–53;

(2) why the grant to the Royal Manchester College of Music has been increased to £7,500 for 1953–54 from £5,000 for 1952–53;

(3) why the grant to the Royal College of Music has been increased to £17,500 for 1953–54 from £16,500 for 1952–53.

Mr. R. A. Butler

The increases were to enable these three bodies to maintain their activities; there had been no increase in their grants for several years.
