HC Deb 17 November 1953 vol 520 c148W
Mr. Lewis

asked the Minister of Works if he is aware of the difficulty of many local authorities and building contractors in obtaining bricks to carry on with their housebuilding programme; and what action he is taking to ensure that the building programme is not held up for the lack of building materials.

Sir D. Eccles

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given on 7th July to the hon. Member for Newcastle-under-Lyme (Mr. Swingler). The production of bricks is expanding and should continue to do so in 1954. The expectation of uninterrupted demand provides the necessary incentive to maximum output of building materials generally.
