HC Deb 16 November 1953 vol 520 c122W
Sir W. Darling

asked the Minister of Labour to what extent the increase by £47,000, in the travelling expenses of his Department is due to increased fares.

Mr. Watkinson

About £5,000 of the increase of £47,000 in the provision made for travelling, etc., expenses for 1953–54 as compared with 1952–53 relates to higher fares, the bulk of the increase being due to higher rates of subsistence allowances. It is now anticipated that the increased provision is not likely to be required because of a reduction in the volume of travelling.
