§ 111. Mr. Padleyasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when the promised legislation to amend the Shops Act, in the light of the Gowers Report on closing hours, will be introduced.
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeSuggested provisions for amending legislation on shop hours were circulated in March to interested organisations for consideration. Many of the interested organisations have not yet sent in their comments. We are trying to expedite them, but it will take some time to complete the necessary consultations. I cannot yet say, however, when it will be possible to introduce legislation.
