112. Mr. Padley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when legislation will be introduced to deal with problems of health, welfare and safety in shops and offices which were the subject of inquiry and report by the Gowers Committee.

116. Mr. Mulley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he proposes to introduce legislation to implement the recommendations of the Gowers Committee on the Health, Safety and Welfare of Non-Industrial Workers; and if he will make a statement.

117. Mr. Edelman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he proposes to implement the Gowers Report by introducing legislation to extend the protection of the Factories Acts to office and similar non-industrial workers.

Progress has been made with the discussion with interested organisations of the tentative proposals for legislation to which I have referred in previous statements; but I am not yet in a position to say when it will be practicable to introduce legislation.
