HC Deb 12 November 1953 vol 520 c84W
127. Mr. Bowles

asked the Minister of Health whether he will circularise hospital boards with advice that they should delete from their hospital names depressing words like, for incurables, cancer,&c., so as to remove despondency from patients and relations.

Mr. Iain Macleod

I regard this as a matter for the hospital authorities themselves. Regional hospital boards may, in consultation with the management committees concerned, make such changes in the names of non-teaching hospitals as they think fit, and I am prepared to consider any proposal for a change of name put forward by the board of governors of any teaching hospital.
