HC Deb 12 November 1953 vol 520 c91W
148. Mr. Peart

asked the Minister of Education to make a statement on the practice of local education authorities in enforcing payments from parents who have taken their children from school after the statutory age of 15.

Miss Horsbrugh

Some local education authorities have power under local Acts to exact a penalty from parents who enter into an agreement to keep their child at school for a specified period beyond the statutory leaving age and do not keep that agreement. It is for the Authority to decide whether in any particular case they will take steps, through the courts, to enforce the agreement.
