HC Deb 11 November 1953 vol 520 c51W
94. Mr. Ian Winterbottom

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what action has been taken by the Government of the Federation of Malaya on the report of the Rice Production Committee; and what action that Government is taking on the recommendation that rents should be limited to one-third of the gross value of the crop and that all tea money should be forbidden.

Mr. Lyttelton

Effect is already being given to some of the recommendations in this report and it has been decided to carry out any others not involving new financial provisions. Most of those which do involve new financial commitments require further study as do the problems of rent restriction and the prohibition of "tea money."
