HC Deb 11 November 1953 vol 520 cc44-5W
75. Mr. T. Reid

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if our diplomatic office in Israel is still in Tel Aviv; and when it is proposed to move it to Jerusalem, in view of the move of the Israeli Foreign Office.

Mr. Eden

The answer to the first part of the Question is: Yes.

As regards the second part of the Question, Her Majesty's Government do not recognise Israel sovereignty over the section of Jerusalem under Israeli control. Together with the United States and French Governments, they made clear at the time their view that the move of the Israel Foreign Ministry was not calculated to reduce tension between the Arab States and Israel, and might prejudice future consideration of the status of Jerusalem by the United Nations. There is, therefore, no intention at present of transferring Her Majesty's Embassy to Jerusalem.
