HC Deb 11 November 1953 vol 520 c58W
Mr. Daines

asked the Minister of Health what research has been conducted into the efficacy of fog masks; and if he will arrange for the production of a cheap and efficient supply.

Mr. Iain Macleod

There has been much relevant research, both here and abroad. But the major problem in this field is to ascertain whether there is any truly effective respirator which could safely be worn by people—particularly old people—who suffer from weaknesses of the lungs or heart. Research on this is being actively pursued, but as yet with no conclusive result.

The last part of the Question, therefore, does not arise, in the sense which the hon. Member presumably had in mind.
