HC Deb 11 November 1953 vol 520 c55W
Mr. Crouch

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he can now announce the terms of reference of the proposed inquiry about the disposal of Crichel Down, in Dorset; and the name of the person who is to hold it.

Sir T. Dugdale

I have been fortunate enough to secure the services of Sir Andrew Clark, Bt., Q.C., to undertake this public duty. His terms of reference areTo inquire into and report upon the procedure adopted—

  1. (a) in reaching the decision that land at Crichel Down should be sold to the Commissioners of Crown Lands;
  2. (b) in the selection of a tenant by them; and the circumstances in which those decisions were made, but excluding from the inquiry all questions of governmental policy and, in particular, any question of whether preferential treatment should have been given to any applicant on the ground of previous ownership or occupation of the land.
