HC Deb 09 November 1953 vol 520 cc12-3W
60. Mr. Turner-Samuels

asked the Attorney-General whether, as the Government agree that the distinction between public authorities and other defendants regarding the period in which an action may be brought for tort should be removed, and Lord Justice Tucker's Committee having recommended the removal of the distinction since June, 1949, Her Majesty's Government will introduce legislation to amend the Limitation Act, 1939, accordingly.

The Attorney-General

As I said in reply to a Question by the hon. and learned Member on 26th October, the Government recognise that there is much to be said for removing this distinction between public authorities and other defendants, but I cannot hold out any hope that it will be possible for the Government to introduce legislation at an early date.
