HC Deb 09 November 1953 vol 520 cc18-20W
Mr. Mason

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (1) for a summary of the report which has been received dealing with the second attack on the Reverend Samuel Heap;

(2) why the report received from the Colombian Government dealing with the second attack on the Reverend Samuel Heap is regarded as unsatisfactory, as was stated in his reply to a Question on 29th October;

(3) to make a statement on the report received from the Colombian Government relating to the second attack that was made on the Reverend Samuel Heap.

Mr. Nutting

The Colombian Government's report did not acknowledge that any attack had taken place. It consequently contained no indication that those responsible had been punished, and no assurance that there would be no recurrence. However, as a result of further representations which Her Majesty's Ambassador at Bogotá was instructed to make, the Colombian Government has now expressly requested the Governor of the province in question to take steps to ensure the future protection of Mr. Heap.
